Drama Classes for Youth: IAMB Shakespearean Workshops

Adrianna's classes and camps have run at Rumball Music Studios in Bolton, Hamilton Urban Theatre, McMaster University, Arts Express, The Harbourfront Community Centre, and Children's Art Theater School. She has also taught across North America where she gained the nickname "Big Red" as a Youth Counselor on Norwegian Cruise Lines which toured The Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.

Adrianna has also been Program Coordinator for her own Shakespeare intensive camp: IAMB SHAKESPEAREAN! Below is an overview of her endeavors.

IAMB SHAKESPEAREAN!

A two or one-week intensive which was focused on youth between the ages of 7 - 15 years old. The emphasis is on the children to have a new and exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the dramatic arts with a special focus on William Shakespeare's works. Through hands-on workshops such as design, movement activities, improvisation, music, and scene study, clown, and stage combat, participants will learn about Shakespeare's life and times, his plays, and most importantly how to be a Shakespearean actor! In past programs the children saw the play they were performing at a local venue to support the arts and to see the characters they have learned in action. Their performance of the play is a PWYC performance for parents, family and friends to come and share the joy of acting.

ImageThe Hamilton Urban Theatre made the programme with a no-cost to the student mandate. Adrianna worked alongside with local organizations such as Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada and the YMCA to find children interested in the arts but unable to fund any pursuit of it. Supported by the Trillium Fund, local businesses, and past theatre profit, Adrianna acted as Program Coordinator and Head Counselor for the summer of 2004. The IAMB Shakespearean program focused development of communication skills, self confidence, and create within our campers a communal awareness through Shakespeare's words and characters. The program fosters an academic confidence that will aid the campers in their transition into high school.
